Every saree you order from India arrives with an unstitched blouse piece — about 0.8 metres of matching fabric, not a wearable blouse. You have two options: have it stitched in India before the parcel ships, or take it to a tailor where you live. What is actually in the box

A saree is one continuous length of woven cloth plus a separate rectangle of matching fabric — the blouse piece, standard at roughly 0.80 metres. The saree body varies: some listings run 5.5 m, others 6.3 m. Read the length line on the product page rather than assuming, because that difference changes how many pleats you get at the waist.

The blouse piece is not a courtesy extra. It is cut from the same loom run and dye lot as the saree — and on a handloom weave that matters more than people expect. Two pieces dyed weeks apart in the same nominal shade read as different colours under warm indoor light, exactly the light you will be photographed in. A ready-made blouse bought in Edison, Wembley or Harris Park will almost never match a handloom dye lot. The supplied piece will.

Stitch in India, or stitch where you live?

This is the real decision, and it is not about money. What each route costs, and what it costs you in return rights:

Those are list prices for the blouse stitching service. The same non-returnable rule covers fall, pico, edging, pleating and pre-draping — any service that puts a needle through the cloth ends the return window.

On a first order from a store you have not bought from before, ship it unstitched. On repeat orders, stitching saves you the tailor hunt.

What 0.8 metres actually limits

Here is the detail nobody tells overseas buyers until it is too late. A 0.80 m piece comfortably yields a short- or elbow-sleeve blouse in most standard sizes. It will not reliably yield full-length sleeves, a longer princess-cut back, or a larger size with a deep hem — those generally need a metre or more. Want long sleeves? Source extra matching or deliberately contrasting fabric locally, and say so before the tailor cuts.

Two more things to hand over with the cloth:

• Say where the motif should land. On a Kanjivaram or Paithani blouse piece the border motif or contrast panel usually sits at one end. Whether it ends up centred on your back, split across a shoulder seam, or cut away entirely is decided by the tailor's first cut. Most people never mention it, then wonder why the blouse looks plain.
• Line anything with zari. Metallic zari on the inside face abrades skin over a four-hour event and snags on jewellery. A plain cotton lining costs almost nothing.

The eight measurements to send

2. Upper chest — above the bust, under the armpits

4. Shoulder width — seam point to seam point across the back

6. Sleeve length — from the shoulder seam down
7. Sleeve round — arm circumference where the sleeve ends
8. Armhole round

Measure over the bra you will actually wear, and label your unit. An unlabelled "36" read as centimetres instead of inches is the single most common remake.

What a return from abroad actually looks like

International terms differ from India's. On orders shipped outside India you have two days from delivery to send the item back, you pay the return courier, and you email the receipt to support@mysilklove.com. The refund covers the product only — outbound shipping is not refunded, and any reverse import duty charged at India's ports is deducted. Exchanges are not offered on international orders at all.

Cancelling is cleaner: within 24 hours of ordering, email us your order number and the full amount is refunded in two to three business days. Second thoughts belong in that window, not the return route.

Shipping thresholds and local currency

Prices display in your local currency on the global store, and international shipping is free on prepaid orders — but the threshold moves. On a standard saree order, free worldwide shipping applies above ₹6,000; below that a ₹1,000 charge applies. Add blouse stitching and the order moves onto the stitched-goods profile, where the free-shipping threshold rises to ₹7,000. If your saree sits between those two numbers, stitching can quietly add ₹1,000 of shipping on top of the ₹1,599. Check the cart total before you confirm.

Can I return a saree if I had the blouse stitched and it does not fit?

No. Once the blouse is stitched — or fall, pico, edging, pleating or pre-draping done — the saree is non-returnable and non-exchangeable, on Indian and international orders alike. That is why we suggest shipping unstitched on a first order. If fit is your worry, keep the return window alive and stitch locally.

Will a tailor in my city know how to handle an Indian blouse piece?

Any competent tailor can, but hand it over with instructions rather than assumptions: this is all the fabric that exists, cut for the agreed sleeve length, place the motif here. Alterations shops in areas with an established Indian community already know the pattern; a general shop needs the brief spelled out. Ask for a quote before they cut.

How long does stitching add to delivery?
